The first beta for Android 11 is now rolling out. And installing the Android 11 Beta is super simple. Though there are a few steps you need to do before you can enjoy the next version of Android.
We are going to walk you through how to install the Android 11 Beta on your smartphone. But first things first, this only works with Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Any of those phones will work with Android 11 Beta right now.
How to Install Android 11 Beta on your Google Pixel smartphone
You’ll need to head to the Android Beta website and enroll your device. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and you’ll see the devices on your account that are eligible.
After you have opted into the Android 11 Beta, you will get an OTA on your smartphone in the next few hours. It usually is much sooner than that, but sometimes it can take a few hours.
You can now head to your phone. Go into Settings and check for a system update. Or wait for the notification that you have an update available.
Once it shows up, click on the “Download & Install” button at the bottom of the page.
This update is going to take some time to download. The first beta comes in at 1.72GB in size. Which means it’s going to take close to an hour to install.
After it has downloaded, it will then reboot and you’ll be on Android 11.
Keep in mind that it will take longer than usual to reboot your phone, because it is rebuilding the cache and other things under-the-hood of the device.
How to roll back to Android 10
Rolling back to Android 10 is super simple.
Just head back to the Android Beta website and opt out of the beta for that specific device.
Afterwards, you’ll get an update via OTA on your device that will take your phone back to Android 10. So it’s actually a downgrade and not an update. But it’ll take you back to the stable version of Android 10.
So if you are having issues with the Android 11 Beta, this is a great way to go back without having to boot up adb and throw in a bunch of commands. Luckily, Google has made it super simple to go back to simpler times. The stable version of Android 11 should be out in September.
