Swimming's world governing body, World Aquatics, told The Associated Press on Thursday that its top administrator, Brent Nowicki, was subpoenaed to testify in the investigation. "World Aquatics can confirm that its executive director, Brent Nowicki, was served with a witness subpoena by the United States government," World Aquatics said in a statement to the AP. "He is working to schedule a meeting with the government, which, in all likelihood will obviate the need for testimony before a Grand Jury." World Aquatics declined to answer questions about where and when Nowicki was served his subpoena and didn't say which office was handling the investigation. The FBI did not immediately return requests for comment. The news comes just three weeks before the Paris Olympics, where 11 of the Chinese swimmers who tested positive for a banned heart medication three years ago are set to compete. The swimmers in question were allowed to compete at the Tokyo Olympics despite their positive tests just months before those Games. Chinese officials blamed food contamination; the World Anti-Doping Agency accepted that explanation and has since defended its handling of the case. China won six medals in swimming, including three golds, at the Tokyo Olympics to finish fourth on the medal table behind the United States, Australia and Britain. The positive tests were not publicly known until The New York Times and German broadcaster ARD first reported on the case in April. A House Committee on China asked the Justice Department and FBI on May 21 to investigate the case under a federal law that allows investigations into suspected doping conspiracies even if they occurred outside the U.S. Information from Reuters was used in this report. 2024 Feb25 Atlanta Finish Main Image Atlanta Portrait Photography 0002 480x725 P3021253074 4 Maxresdefault Maxresdefault ?sqp= OaymwEmCIAKENAF8quKqQMa8AEB AHUBoAC4AOKAgwIABABGEYgYihlMA8=&rs=AOn4CLATmm7kbOiH SxBtAVJ8jMdMxrEFQ Photobooksaturday Photobooksaturday 1 AACRiverside 16 Web PO20210109 Sam Katie 0298 BetweentheDevilandDeepBlueSea 01 Gl5rJaXopE0x2h7L423TiSxOZx8ndX0f0KXMbw4k Atlanta Photographers 0004 Atlanta Wedding Photographers No Watermark 0205 480x719 20200219 JAC 20200219 5601 Master4tweekfrom3NewFinalMP Photographyatl19 Critique Website Getlstd Property Photo ?w=1200&h=1200&s=1 Atlanta Engagement Photographer0032.JPG 3AB11409 70A1 4091 ABB4 D47D448DD363 1 105 C ?format=750w P.php?a=pv&p=50684 Atlanta Engagement Photographer280016.JPG Candler Park 1.JPG Screen Shot 2021 05 06 At 2.20.03 PM Gallery 44 Screen Shot 2022 10 26 At 12.52.34 PM E1666805535980 Air Scaled Selects2023featuredimage Scaled Graphic Critique March 2023 No Date 600x598 Primary Graphic Project Reviews June 2023 300x300 Event Graphic Critique November2022 Primary Graphic V2 Portfolio 2023 Website2 Primary Image APG Critique Group72 298x300 Product Page Portfolio 2022 V1 No Logo 1 600x600 Air 300x300
