Swimming's world governing body, World Aquatics, told The Associated Press on Thursday that its top administrator, Brent Nowicki, was subpoenaed to testify in the investigation. "World Aquatics can confirm that its executive director, Brent Nowicki, was served with a witness subpoena by the United States government," World Aquatics said in a statement to the AP. "He is working to schedule a meeting with the government, which, in all likelihood will obviate the need for testimony before a Grand Jury." World Aquatics declined to answer questions about where and when Nowicki was served his subpoena and didn't say which office was handling the investigation. The FBI did not immediately return requests for comment. The news comes just three weeks before the Paris Olympics, where 11 of the Chinese swimmers who tested positive for a banned heart medication three years ago are set to compete. The swimmers in question were allowed to compete at the Tokyo Olympics despite their positive tests just months before those Games. Chinese officials blamed food contamination; the World Anti-Doping Agency accepted that explanation and has since defended its handling of the case. China won six medals in swimming, including three golds, at the Tokyo Olympics to finish fourth on the medal table behind the United States, Australia and Britain. The positive tests were not publicly known until The New York Times and German broadcaster ARD first reported on the case in April. A House Committee on China asked the Justice Department and FBI on May 21 to investigate the case under a federal law that allows investigations into suspected doping conspiracies even if they occurred outside the U.S. Information from Reuters was used in this report. ?url=https Source Media Brightspot.s3.us East 1.amazonaws.com 25 Ef 7c1459074be89cbd59c64ffe93f6 2024 Pic Istock 1487426406 Luxury For Less 2024s Tips For High End Looks On A Budget 1024x576 2024 Financial Services Firms Look At Whats In Store For The Markets And The Economy In 2024 Whats In Store For 2024 Scaled Maxresdefault Budget 2024 Can It Be The Key To Inclusive Growth Womens Empowerment And Farmer Prosperity Scaled 65b7ae4546d07d001de89aca 2024loading 1300x400 ?itok=rXkGAdiM 2024 RETAIL PL TEMPLATE 1024x1024 ?v=1699409989 Maxresdefault Screen Shot 2024 01 15 At 12.53.49 Maxresdefault Pexels Andrea Piacquadio 974964 1kbt50mm 2024 01 26 2024 Shopping 310964 1701726412619 Main 1280 80 Anh Chup Man Hinh 2023 09 14 153025 1401923281 Maxresdefault 20240102 What 2024 Has In Store For Debt Buying And Selling 2 Whats In Store For 2024 Blog Image News Freshco Opening Rk 7644web ;w=1200;h=800;mode=crop 1704220430495?e=2147483647&v=beta&t=biJae8WfdTpq2zF2NAo9GvnOpF7auPdFU9XJWH9sykk 17044742599651 2024 Shopping 310964 1703114064543 Fb.700x0c Gibson Retail Trends 2024 Ga Costamesa 00 46bwcw6a 2024 01 16 New Furniture Interior Design Trends 2024 TO ES FOR CBOS BLOG UNIQLO SASHIKO LONDON 2022 Tamsin McLaren 1024x1024 Thumb 66e78190ea22df01 Whats In Store For 2024 Web 730x411 MHzWEbREXgInDhodBGXg1699270204 2024 16 9 Ricoh Europe 2024 299510 6petersmay 863925
