Ryanair has announced it is to axe hundreds of flights this month after suffering a huge admin blunder.

The budget airline has warned that as many as 400,000 bookings could be scrapped up to the end of next month after admitting it had ‘messed up’ pilots’ holidays.

The airline blamed the cancellations on a problem with the pilots’ holiday rota – with many employees due leave that had to be taken before the end of the year.

Since admitting to the blunder, the company has released a full list of the flights it will cancel, while emails were sent to the first affected passengers on Friday, giving them the choice of a refund or an alternative flight.

The full list of cancelled flights has been published here and covers the period up to October 28.

If your flight has been cancelled and you have been left wondering what options are available to you, Skyscanner has today compiled a list of handy affordable alternatives for holidaymakers who have been left in the lurch.

For instance, If you were planning to fly from Birmingham to Madrid on flight number 2083, it suggests taking a train from the city centre to Manchester for £20, and flying with Iberia Express for £39.
