A 37-year-old man has been charged with terror offences after being arrested at Stansted Airport.

Aweys Faqey, from north London, was arrested by counter-terror officers at the airport on May 23.

He was charged on Tuesday with the preparation of terrorist acts, the Met Police said.

Faqey had been detained as he tried to board a plane to Turkey.

He was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Scotland Yard said the incident is not linked to the Manchester attacks.
