A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in Rainham, east London, on Saturday morning.

The stabbing victim remains in a “critical condition” after being rushed to hospital - following a police call out to Cherry Tree Lane at 5.30am.

The Metropolitan Police is now investigating the incident as a serious assault but has not made any arrests.

As per its probe, officers have now set up a corden at the scene.

Cherry Tree Lane is only a mile from Elm Park - where a gang of youths carried out a knife attack inside a primary school hall last weekend.

However, there has been no suggestion that the two incidents are linked.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 5:27am on Saturday, March 29 to Cherry Tree Lane in Rainham following reports of a serious assault.

“The victim was taken to hospital with stab wounds where he remains in a critical condition.

“Officers remain at the scene and a cordon is in place at the location.

“No arrests have been made at this stage."
