Reddit users have reportedly raised more than £130,000 for a man who was filmed being brutally assaulted on a Facebook live-stream.
The fundraising page was set up by Razor Sheldon, who the Washington Post identified as the man behind the popular UpliftingNews subreddit, a forum on the Reddit site.
He told the newspaper he had used the forum to co-ordinate and verify a number of fundraisers and that donations had surged after he initially set a goal of about £4,000.
A GoFundMe spokesman confirmed the victim’s family was working with them on the campaign.
In the “sickening” 30-minute video shot in Chicago, the 18-year-old victim was bound and gagged before a knife was used to remove part of his scalp.
His attackers could be seeing cutting his clothes and dropping cigarette ash on him, while making derogatory slurs about white people and President-elect Donald Trump.
