Two injured after shootings in Notting Hill and Hammersmith

Shooting: The scene in Hammersmith
WEST END FINAL

Two men were seriously injured in separate London shootings over the Bank Holiday weekend.

A father said his 20-year-old son was shot in the back outside their home in Hammersmith on Sunday evening. One bullet struck a neighbour’s flat, sending residents diving for cover.

The victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition after the bullet passed through his back, lung and arm, narrowly missing his rib cage. His condition today was described as stable.

The victim’s father, a taxi driver, told the Standard: “I heard some popping noises, like fire crackers, and then my boy came running in and said call an ambulance.”

A second man was shot in Notting Hill at 7.20pm yesterday. Witnesses say the gunman fired shots from a people carrier. The victim is in a serious but stable condition.

Detectives say there is “nothing to suggest” the shootings are linked. Both are being investigated by Scotland Yard’s gangs unit.
