An elderly shopworker is fighting for his life after being stabbed by three men who raided his east London post office.

The 70-year-old victim was today in a critical condition in hospital following the attempted robbery at the corner shop in Carr Road, Waltham Forest, at 9.10pm on Sunday night.

The shop, on the corner of Brettenham Road, was cordoned off last night as police launched an investigation.

Officers are hunting three white males in their mid-twenties who were seen to leave the store immediately after the attack.

A Met spokesman said: “One line of enquiry is that the victim was stabbed following an attempted robbery.

“No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing and a crime scene remains in place.”

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
