The London Marathon 2025 is set to take place on Sunday, April 27 — and with more than 56,000 participants expected, road closures across the capital are inevitable.
To ensure runners can safely complete the 26.2-mile route, major roads will be closed throughout the day.
The race crosses five London boroughs — Greenwich, Southwark, the City of London, Tower Hamlets and Westminster — meaning the event will impact far more than just those lacing up their trainers.
Here’s a full breakdown of everything you need to know about road closures on the day.
Which roads are closed for the London Marathon 2025?
Closed roads will be marked with yellow road closure signs on the day. To help you plan, we’ve outlined the roads below.
Please note that roads close at different times, and not all will be closed for the entire day.
Canary Wharf (8am-8.30pm:
- East Ferry Road
- Marsh Wall
- Westerley Road
- Bank Street
- Upper Bank Street
- Charter Street
- Trafalgar Way
- Poplar High Street
- Limehouse
- West India Dock Road
- Commercial Road
Blackheath and Charlton:
- Charlton Way and Shooters Hill Road (4am-2.30pm)
- St John’s Park (7am-2.30pm)
- Charlton Park Road (7am-2.30pm)
- Shooters Hill Road (7am-2.30pm)
- Old Dover Road (7am-2.30pm)
- Little Heath (7am-2:30pm)
- Charlton Park Lane (7am-2.30pm)
Woolwich:
- Artillery Place (7am-2.30pm)
- John Wilson Street (7am-2.30pm)
- Woolwich Church Street (7am-3pm)
- Woolwich Road (7am-3pm)
- Trafalgar Road (7am-4pm)
Greenwich:
- Creek Road (7am-4pm)
- Romney Road (7am-4pm)
- The Greenwich Foot Tunnel: Open south to north on the day, but expected to be busy. Closed north to south between 10.30am and 12.30am.
- Cutty Sark DLR: Cutty Sark Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station will be entry only on Sunday. Passengers will be unable to get off trains or leave the station. Only northbound services will operate.
Deptford:
- Evelyn Street (8am-4pm)
Rotherhithe:
- Surrey Quays Road (8am-4pm)
- Salter Road (8am-4pm)
- Brunel Road (8am-4pm)
- Lower Road (8am-4pm)
Bermondsey:
- Jamaica Road (8am-4pm)
- Tower Bridge (8am-8.30pm)
- The Highway (south side) (8am-8.30pm)
- The Highway (north side) (8am-8.30pm)
Trafalgar Square (7.20am-10pm):
- Pall Mall East
- Cockspur Street
- Strand westbound (entire road), Strand eastbound (between Trafalgar Square and Bedford Street)
- Charing Cross Road (between Strand and William IV Street)
- Duncannon Street
As well as those road closures, Queen Anne’s Gate between Broadway and the entrance to St James’s Park will also be shut to the public.
If your car is parked on any of the affected roads on April 27, it will be removed.
Organisers are urging drivers to move their vehicles by the evening of Saturday, April 26, with removals beginning as early as 4am on marathon day.
