“I very much hoped that she was not going to be found guilty for the sake of the family,” said Chris Huhne of his ex-wife Vicky Pryce, in an interview for Channel 4 News last night.
Both had just been sentenced to eight months in prison for swapping speeding points.
Of course Huhne, the former Energy Secretary, had the power to effect a gentlemanly intervention by giving evidence at her trial of how he came to ask his then-wife to take his speeding points. He already knew he was going to jail and could have clarified matters.
