Iain Duncan Smith threatened to quit the Cabinet if he is ordered to vote against his Eurosceptic principles again, his friends confirmed today.
The Work and Pensions Secretary, a former Conservative leader and one of the Government's staunchest Eurosceptics, had a stand-up row with the chief whip during Monday's vote on a referendum.
Mr Duncan Smith told Patrick McLoughlin: "If you ever put me in this position again, that's it," an MP who witnessed the argument revealed.
