Journalist Martin Bashir âneeds to come forwardâ to answer questions about his controversial Princess Diana interview, according to the graphic designer who drew up fake bank statements for him.
Matt Wiessler said Bashir had not told him what the forged documents were being used for.
Dianaâs brother, Earl Spencer, claims Bashir showed them to him, saying they proved courtiers were selling stories about his sister in order to gain his confidence and get access to her.
Last night ITV broadcast the first part of a documentary about the 1995 interview. Wiessler claimed he had been made a scapegoat by the BBC who refused him further work while Bashir returned as a senior journalist.
He told Radio 4âs Today Programme: âThe person that needs to come forward is Martin Bashir. Heâs apparently too ill to speak to anyone now. Heâs the only one who has the answers.â
The BBC has pledged to âget to the bottomâ of the controversy around the interview where the princess, below, told Bashir there were âthree peopleâ in her marriage â a reference to Prince Charlesâs relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles. Bashir has had quadruple heart bypass surgery and Covid-19.
