Five people have been injured after a car ploughed into a group of students celebrating Freshersâ Week outside a nightclub in Birmingham in a âtargetedâ attack.
Police were called to The Tunnel Club on Livery Street at around 3am on Friday to reports of disorder involving a group.
They discovered five men with injuries, with one treated by ambulance crews for âmultiple serious injuriesâ and taken to a major trauma centre.
Four other men were treated by medics for âpotentially serious injuriesâ and taken to hospital for further treatment.
The club had been hosting an event for Freshers Week, according to their website.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in custody.
Police are still searching for the driver of the vehicle.
One local told the Mirror that they had overheard shouting in the early hours of the morning.
They said: âI heard shrieks, fighting and general ranting and raving for about half an hour, which is uncommon at that time of night.
âIt's really shocking what has happened. It would have been busy around there last night.â
Another local claimed to have seen a man ârunning people over in the streetâ.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: âWe are treating this incident as a targeted attack and are stepping up our patrols in the area today for reassurance.
âWe are asking anyone who saw what happened, especially those with photos or video, to get in touch with us via 101 or Live Chat quoting log 315 of 4 October.â
