A food bank volunteer was fatally stabbed as he tried to hand out leaflets for his church, his heartbroken friends said today.
Mohamed Issa Koroma, known as Chris, 24, was killed in a high street attack on September 17.
Now, in a viral Facebook post, friend Victoria Walker, has revealed that Mohamed was âhanding out leaflets inviting people to churchâ when he was stabbed.
She described the death of the man who regularly helped out at his local homeless shelter, as âa horrific and sad tragedyâ.
âDuring street evangelising he was stabbed,â she wrote.
âHe was handing out flyers and inviting people to church.
âNot in a gang. Not a drug dealer.
âHe did nothing but hand out leaflets and invite people to know God,â Victoria added.
He died despite efforts from paramedics called to the Sheffield High Street attack
Victoria added: âThe family are still traumatised, distraught and in complete heartbreak.
âThey have been barely able to comprehend the circumstances around his death and still trying make sense of it all.
âNo parent deserves to lose a child in such circumstances.
âAs a community, weâre still in deep shock and sadness.
âBut we want to ensure we show solidarity, love and unity during this situation.â
Victoria said: âMohamed regularly helped the homeless at the local soup kitchen.
âHe was dedicated to helping the poor, sick, homeless and helpless.
âHe had so much humanity.
âHis name, story and life should not go in vain.â
To help Mohamedâs family with funeral expenses, an online fundraising appeal has been launched on the Go Fund Me website.
Detectives investigating the killingurged businesses in the city centre to check their CCTV cameras and motorist to look at their dashcams for any footage recorded around the time of the incident.
James Lee, 31, of Rotherham, has been charged with murder.
Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 585 of September 17.
