Over the last few weeks, temperatures in London got as high as the mid-20s.
That’s unseasonably warm for the time of year and a welcome change after a lacklustre spring and summer in 2024.
However, now that the sunshine has dipped somewhat, Londoners are back to grey skies, mid-range temperatures and even showers.
Here’s a look at when the capital can expect warm temperatures again, informed by Met Office forecasts.
When will it get warm again?
Over the rest of the week and the long Easter weekend, Londoners can expect highs of 16 or 17 degrees, which hardly touch the warm weather we’ve had over the last few weeks.
Indeed, the overcast and showery weather is predicted to last throughout April, albeit with “some drier and brighter interludes”.
However, as we head into May, we can expect more settled weather and high-pressure zones, which usually means more sunshine and higher temperatures.
What is the average temperature for this time of the year?
That said, the Met Office’s average maximum temperature for April is 15 degrees, so conditions are still warmer than is typical. However, it is not the sort of weather that most are hoping for, as clouds and spring showers are forecast throughout the week.
What is the hottest Easter on record?
The UK's warmest Easter ever was at Camden Square in London, where temperatures reached 29.4C on the Saturday of the Easter weekend in 1949.
That’s almost double the Met Office’s average for that time of year and was caused by the kind of high-pressure weather that is forecast for May.
