Police today found a body believed to be the missing member of a group who became stranded in the AustralianOutback almost two weeks ago, south of Alice Springs.

Officers have not yet formally identified Claire Hockridge, 46, who was with partner Tamra McBeath-Riley, 52, and friend Phu Tran, 40, in an SUV that became trapped in a dry riverbed during a sightseeing drive on November 19.

Ms McBeath-Riley stayed behind at a waterhole with her terrier while her two companions set off to trek through the 40C desert heat towards a highway.

She and the dog were rescued by a search helicopter on Sunday after a cattle rancher spotted their truck’s tyre tracks. Mr Tran was found by another rancher yesterday.

Both survivors are being treated for dehydration and exposure.
