How Much Thinner Is the Galaxy Z Fold 5's Hinge?

This year, the biggest feature of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 is, the new hinge. This new hinge is thinner and lighter, and allows for the phones to now fold completely flat. That might not sound like a big deal, since others have been doing this for a few years, but Samsung has finally made this possible with its fifth-generation of foldables.

Now, we can see side-by-side, how much smaller the hinge really is. The hinge is quite a bit smaller, as you can see, and this is thanks to having a more streamlined construction. There’s also less moving parts inside. So it has an even smaller percentage possibility of breaking.

This smaller hinge also allows the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to drop some weight as well. Now, it’s not super light, it’s still around 252 grams, so it really only lost about 4% compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. But that’s still a big deal. When a phone is this big and heavy, every little gram it can shed, is a big deal and gets it closer to being adopted by the masses. Which is ideally what Samsung wants here.

In the photo below, you can also see how much thinner it is, when the phone is closed. Really cool to see the internals like this.
