What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is an annual shopping bonanza held the day after Thanksgiving which was first started in America.
It's a time when retailers unveil huge reductions on products for the Christmas period, and is generally regarded as the beginning of the festive shopping season in the US.
Originally a one-day event, thanks to its huge success many retailers now offer sales and deals in the week leading up to it.
A number of shoppers grab their bargains online so websites often receive huge levels of traffic on the day, while huge queues often form outside popular stores on the high street as well.
When is Black Friday 2019?
Black Friday is TODAY (Friday November 29) and many retailers – from fashion to homeware – are announcing deals in the build-up to it.
The following Monday - December 2 - is known as Cyber Monday, when online stores hold sales. But since the two days have been so popular, the whole weekend now tends to be marketed as Black Friday weekend,

For many shoppers Amazon is the first port of call, and for good reason: in the past, it has featured discounts of up to 87 per cent.
