Caroline Flack âangryâ at âdangerousâ Love Island criticism: âThis is a much bigger issue than just a reality TV showâ

Caroline Flack has revealed her anger at criticism of Love Island following the death of former contestant Mike Thalassitis, describing the backlash as âdangerous.â
The star, who is set to return as presenter of the ITV2 dating series next month, told Cosmopolitan that it isnât fair âto point fingers of blameâ at reality TV.
âItâs dangerous and Iâm really, really angry,â she told the magazine. âItâs not just that youâre blaming a TV show, youâre blaming people and their jobs.
âIn life we all have a duty of care to look out for each other, but I donât think itâs fair to point fingers of blame.
âThis is a much bigger issue than just a reality TV show, and when something this bad happens - and Iâm talking about Mike - when something this horrible and sad occurs, itâs so dangerous to point fingers within hours and minutes of it happening.â
The 39-year-old said that it is important to consider âthe bigger picture, about whatâs going on with young men and young people and the pressures of modern life.â
She described Thalassitisâ death aged 26 as âtoo sad and too sensitive to talk about,â adding: âHe was always a total gentleman to me and Iâm going to be a total lady back.â
Discussing her own love life, Flack revealed that she is âenjoyingâ dating following her split from former fiance Andrew Brady - although she feels âa lot more powerfulâ when she is single.
âBeing engaged was the best feeling in the world - that someone wants to spend the rest of their life with you,â she told the magazine. âWe had a wonderful year but it didnât work out.
âI donât want anything bad to happen to Andrew, I wish nothing but good things for him. But I feel a lot more powerful when Iâm on my own.â
