Game of Thrones star asked to be killed off as his character âwasnât any funâ: âI was very happy to say goodbyeâ

Game of Thrones actor Julian Glover has revealed that he asked to be killed off from the hit HBO show after he lost interest in his storylines.
Glover, who played Grand Maester Pycelle on the show, faced a dramatic ending in season six after he called for an end to his characterâs role.
Speaking to IGN ahead of the showâs final season, Glover told how he âdidnât want to doâ season seven because he felt had been âcompletely dismissed as a characterâ.
He said: âCersei ticked me off all the time, and I never had any comeback. So that wasn't any fun to play, so I went to them and said, 'Look, I don't want to do this anymore, it's not interesting to go on doing this... and what's going to happen to him?'"

Whilst he was âhappyâ to see the back of the show, Glover said he had a âdamn goodâ exit after his character was stabbed to death by Lord Varysâ Little Birds.
He explained: âTo cut a long story short, I got the scene, and it was my death scene, which is a damn good scene. And this is exactly the sort of way I wanted to go out.
âI was very happy to say goodbye to people on that particular moment.â

Gloverâs revelation comes days before the show is set to premiere the first of the six remaining episodes.
Ahead of the showâs air date showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have unveiled plans to be âvery drunkâ and âvery far from the internetâ as a result of the pressure on them not to let fans down.
Benioff told Entertainment Weekly: âAt some point, if and when itâs safe to come out again, somebody like [publicist Mara Mikialian] will give us a breakdown of what was out there without us having to actually experience it.â
âI plan to be very drunk and very far from the internet.â
During his appearance on US talk show Late Night with Seth Myers, Harington explained: âOf course [there's palpable moments]. Itâs going to be a terrible last season [if not]. Iâve just been deadpan like ânothing happenedâ. I can say that there are definite big moments.â
Game Of Thrones will return for a final series on April 15, simulcasting with the US at 2am. Episodes will be repeated at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
