Maisie Williams on Doctor Who: Idris Elba should be the next Doctor â if not Iâll do it

Maisie Williams has backed Idris Elba to be the next Doctor, although sheâd also be keen to take on the role.
The actress, 18, who was named this yearâs Rising star at the Evening Standard British Film Awards, thinks that it would be âcoolâ to take over from Peter Capaldi but is unfortunately tied up with other projects.
âYes it would be cool but right now Iâm locked into some other things. I think a female doctor would be incredible,â she told us at Sundayâs ceremony.
âI think a black doctor would be incredible. Iâm all for Idris Elba â but if not Iâll take it for the team and do it!â

Speaking about her role in The Falling compared to playing Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, she said:
âThis role was a character Iâve never been seen in before and something that Carol [Morley] saw in me and I knew that this was a character I identified with heavily.
âI was the ratty tomboy who wields swords and so itâs lovely for someone to see me be an introvert and then to be awarded this then maybe I should play more introverted roles.â
Williams has appeared in a number of Doctor Who episodes, appearing alongside Capaldi as Ashildr.
