James Corden ‘on target’ for Christmas number one with Sainsbury’s single

James Corden looks set to bag this year’s Christmas number one with his Sainsbury’s single.

The comedian and actor, who hosts the Late Late Show over in the US, could be about to land the most coveted chart position of the year with The Greatest Gift for Christmas is Me.

The soundtrack to the supermarket’s festive advert shot up the charts just 48 hours after being released and is on track to crack the top five in the midweeks.

After the advert was aired for the first time over the weekend, fans were quick to praise the song on Twitter, with many asking how they could download the track.

Giving in to popular demand, the song was made available to download on Spotify and quickly became one of the most downloaded tracks on the site.

Fans seem keen to get Corden’s effort to the top of the charts as all proceeds go to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

“James Corden needs an xmas number 1 with those vocals on the Sainsbury's ad,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“James Corden needs to be Christmas Number 1,” another fan posted.

But Corden’s yuletide song isn’t the only single vying for the top spot this year as it will go head-to-head with the X Factor winner’s single.

Rival brand John Lewis also have a sterling single accompanying their Christmas advert, a cover version of Randy Crawford’s I’ll Fly Away, recorded by The Vaults.
