Meghan Markle has opened up about the emotional process of healing after experiencing a miscarriage, saying she had to "learn to detach" from the hope and plans she once held.

In the latest episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, spoke candidly with activist and Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani, who has also suffered pregnancy loss.

The conversation, part of a series by Lemonada Media, turned deeply personal as the pair discussed grief, motherhood, and resilience.

The royal recalled her own loss, which she first shared in a 2020 essay for The New York Times. In the piece, she revealed she miscarried her second child after feeling a sharp pain while changing her son Archie’s nappy in July that year.

She wrote movingly about watching her husband Prince Harry’s “heart break” as he tried to support her during their time of grief.

“I’ve spoken about the miscarriage that we experienced, and I think in some parallel way, you have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for,” she said on the podcast.

“And to be able to be okay at a certain point to let something go — something that you planned to love for a long time.”

Reshma responded to the remark by saying, “I feel like you’re reading my diary, that’s really insightful.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Meghan spoke about motherhood, calling it her “favourite thing.”

The mum of two shared how deeply connected she feels to Archie, six, and Lilibet, three — so much so that even stepping into another room makes her anxious.

"I love being a mum so much... I’ll be away from them for a moment and start scrolling through pictures of them endlessly,” she said. “My husband is like, ‘My love, can you just give yourself a minute? Why don’t you take a bath? Why don’t you go workout?’ I’m like, ‘I know but I just want a cuddle.’”

On her debut episode of her new podcast, the Duchess of Sussex said she suffered medical complications after childbirth, and had to cope with the “world” not knowing.

Meghan revealed that she had been diagnosed with post-partum pre-eclampsia following the birth of one of her children.

The condition is similar to pre-eclampsia, which affects women during pregnancy – and involves high blood pressure, according to the Preeclampsia Foundation charity.

Describing the condition, Meghan said: “It’s so rare. And its so scary.”

“You’re still trying to juggle all these things and the world doesn’t know what is happening, quietly and in the quiet you are still trying to show up for people,” she added.

“You’re still trying to show up, mostly for your children. But those things are huge medical scares.”

Confessions Of A Female Founder is the latest in Meghan’s flurry of output after her much-criticised Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan and her new brand As Ever.

She has promised the series will feature “girl talk” and advise on how to create “billion-dollar businesses”.
