So you’ve been gifted with a code for your PS5 and you don’t know how to redeem it. Maybe it’s a new game, maybe it’s for a new month, three months, or a year of PlayStation Plus.
The point is that you want to know how to redeem your code on the PS5 you just bought so you can enjoy whatever the code is for. That’s where our handy little guide is here to help. We’ll walk you through the steps to get the code entered into the system so you can claim your digital loot.
Worth noting is that sometimes this is how you’ll redeem digital items for in-game content. Take the Godfall pre-order for example. It comes with a code for claiming in-game items like a sword and some extra character skins. You redeem this code the same way you redeem codes for games and PlayStation Plus memberships. So this is useful knowledge all around.
How to redeem a code on PS5
Boot up your PS5 console
This is likely obvious, but we’re noting it anyway because it is possible to redeem codes for PS5 through the PlayStation Store website.
For the purposes of this guide though, we’ll be focusing on the method used on the PS5 console first. Though we will mention where to redeem codes through the PlayStation Store website as well.
Once your PS5 is booted up, scroll on over to the PlayStation Store. This is where you want to be.
Hit down on the D-Pad to bring up the different tabs
Once you’re on the PlayStation Store section of the home screen, hit the down button on the D-Pad to bring up the different tabs. These will be displayed across the top of the screen and cover four sections including latest, collections, subscriptions, and browse.
If you see these tabs, then you should also now see a three dot button in the top right corner of the UI. That’s what you want to click. As this will bring up a series of options for the PlayStation Store.
The redeem code option will be one of the things that populates in the list that shows after hitting that button. Just click on that, and then you’ll be taken to a new screen to where you can enter the 12-digit code you have sitting in front of you.
Once it shows what the code is for, claim it and you’re done. Now you can enjoy whatever it is.
How to redeem a code on the PlayStation Store website for the PS5
Go to the PlayStation Store website on your desktop browser
Open up your web browser and navigate to the PlayStation Store website. Once there, you’ll need to sign in with your PSN account.
You need to be signed in so when you redeem the code, it applies to your account. So it’s really no different than if you were redeeming a code on Amazon.
Click the profile icon
After you’re signed in, look for the profile icon in the top right corner of the screen. It should look like a little square with a smiley face on it. This is for your profile-related settings. Click it.
After you click it you should see an option for redeeming a code. Click on that and then a side bar will pop out from the right side of the screen. This will probably load for a few seconds, then ask you to verify your account if you have 2-factor authentication set up.
Once you verify your account, you’ll se the dialogue box refresh again and surface the 12-digit entry. Punch in the code and claim it and then you’re done.
How to redeem a code in the PS App for PS5
Download and install the PS App
If you don’t already have the app installed on your device and you own a PS5, you should install it as there are so many benefits to having it. Especially after the update Sony put out for the app.
Grab the app from the Play Store or the App Store, then once you have it installed, sign into it with your PSN account.
Launch the PS App
If you just installed the app then this part won’t apply to you as you’ll already be in the app after signing into it. So you can skip to the next step.
However if you already had the PS App installed on your device, then launch the app. As you can in fact redeem codes here too.
Tap on the PlayStation Store button, then on the hamburger menu icon
Inside the app with its new interface, the first screen you should see pop up will have your friends that are currently online and the most recently played game, along with the trophies you’ve collected for that game so far.
What you want is the PlayStation Store part of the app. Tap the icon down in the navigation menu at the bottom of the app UI that looks like the shopping bag with the PlayStation logo on it.
Then, once you’re on the PlayStation Store screen, tap the hamburger menu icon towards the top right side of the app UI. The button will look like three lines.
Once you tap that a menu will pop up that has the redeem code option. Tap that and then if you have 2-factor authentication set up, verify your account then enter the code on the next screen. If you don’t have 2-factor authentication set up, it should immediately ask you to enter your 12-digit code.
