'Olympic Stadium will be West Ham’s ground but it’s the new ‘home’ for my sport too' - Mo Farah thrilled on emotional return to scene of London 2012 glory

Mo Farah was taken aback yesterday as he returned to the scene of his double triumph of London 2012.

Britain’s 5,000 and 10,000metres champion was at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford to see the work being done to reshape the venue before its reopening.

Farah is one of the stars competing at the stadium as part of the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games from July 24-26.

“To see the track uncovered after it has been buried underground for the past two years is quite emotional for me,” said Farah. “All those people involved in the work are doing a remarkable job. The transformation is amazing and I’m sure the atmosphere for the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games will bring back all those memories of London 2012.

“London is my home. The Olympic Stadium will be West Ham United’s ground but it’s the new ‘home’ for my sport too. For the next 50 years we are going to have a month of track and field in the Stadium. That is amazing and this Stadium will be at the heart of my sport.”

FARAH BREAKS TWO-MILE WORLD RECORD

The Anniversary Games features a two-day Diamond League meeting, followed by a day of Paralympic athletics as part of National Paralympic Day.

Farah said: “The event will be one of the best anywhere in the world this year.”
