Mo Farah was taken aback yesterday as he returned to the scene of his double triumph of London 2012.
Britainâs 5,000 and 10,000metres champion was at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford to see the work being done to reshape the venue before its reopening.
Farah is one of the stars competing at the stadium as part of the Sainsburyâs Anniversary Games from July 24-26.
âTo see the track uncovered after it has been buried underground for the past two years is quite emotional for me,â said Farah. âAll those people involved in the work are doing a remarkable job. The transformation is amazing and Iâm sure the atmosphere for the Sainsburyâs Anniversary Games will bring back all those memories of London 2012.
âLondon is my home. The Olympic Stadium will be West Ham Unitedâs ground but itâs the new âhomeâ for my sport too. For the next 50 years we are going to have a month of track and field in the Stadium. That is amazing and this Stadium will be at the heart of my sport.â

The Anniversary Games features a two-day Diamond League meeting, followed by a day of Paralympic athletics as part of National Paralympic Day.
