Arsenal ended the transfer window with more questions than answers as Arsene Wenger faces a tough task amid mounting pressure from fans.
The Gunners opted to keep hold of Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez after failing in their own last-minute attempts to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco.
Arsenal made an 11th-hour effort to sign the 21-year-old in a club-record deal worth £92million, but Standard Sport understands that Lemar was not keen on joining a Europa League club.
That meant Sanchez was prevented from joining City, but the Chilean forward's future - and that of Mesut Ozil - are no closer to being resolved with both star names having less than a year to run on their contracts.
One player who did land a move away was England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who completed the formalities on his £40m transfer to Liverpool.
But Gunners fans have been left frustrated after failing to land the likes of Lemar - let alone Kylian Mbappe - with further signings failing to materliase beyond early deals for Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
