Manchesster City returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 win over Tottenham at Wembley on Monday night.
Liverpool had initially been top after a 4-1 demolition of Cardiff at Anfield on Saturday. Elsewhere, struggling Fulham were well beaten 3-0 at home to Bournemouth, while Watford won by the same scoreline at home to Huddersfield.
Brighton continued their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Wolves as Glenn Murray celebrated his 100th goal for the club, and Southampton and Newcastle shared a goalless draw. In the late game, Wilfred Ndidi's fortunate late equaliser denied West Ham after Mark Noble's first-half red card.
Sunday offered the bulk of the weekend's drama, with Crystal Palace drawing 2-2 against Arsenal to end the Gunners' winning streak while Chelsea won 4-0 at Burnley.
Later in the day, Manchester United secured a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford to shore up Jose Mourinho's position.
