The first 4G phone is now a step closer to a fully functional final release from popular ROM maker Cyanogen. According to his post on XDA Developers Forum this is the first Release Candidate that is stable enough for everyday use. CM6 brings Android Froyo 2.2 to the EVO 4G without the need to use any Google applications, but they can be individually added as the user sees fit. There is a link to add Google parts in his post, and others can be found throughout the thread.

Unfortunately for fans of the Sense UI (which I am) this is a completely vanilla ROM, and there are other caveats to running CM6. The known issues in the thread list include: protected apps are not showing in the Market (search forums for fix), no 4G, FM radio, or HDMI (yet), Overclocking the ROM will destroy your battery, and Facebook contact sync doesn’t work (also search forums for the fix).

All in all this looks like a very promising ROM, and anyone with an EVO 4G should be excited to extend the capabilities of their phone with this release.
