Rogers Chatr hits Stores in spite of Mobilicity's Threats.

Mobilicity claimed earlier this week that they would issue a formal complaint to the Competition bureau if Rogers went ahead with it’s Chatr launch. But here it is and the pricing details are all available. Earlier this week Rogers sent a memo to its retailers asking them to keep their Chatr inventory under lock and key. Today it has been officially released. Chatr offers a no-contract discount alternative to the typical Rogers cell phone plan. 4 handsets to choose from, the Nokia 1661 Candybar for $60, the LG BR125R Flip for $75, the Nokia 2680 portrait slider for $95 and the Samsung Gravity landscape slider for $130. Unlimited talk plans anywhere in Province goes for $35 and unlimited talk and text anywhere in Canada is $45. Unfortunately service offerings are only available in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa. The discount cell market is getting a little crowded in Canada now with 4 providers. Wind, Mobilicity, Public Mobile and now Chatr. In comparing the carriers, it seems as though Mobilicity currently offers the best deal. Mobiliciy includes voicemail, call forwarding, call waiting and 3 way calling at $35/month. Chatr does offer voicemail but they charge 0.25 cents per minute, which may not be a bad thing if you don’t feel like checking your voicemail. Wind allows for free cross-province calling to other Wind zones. Expect to see Telus follow suit with their own discount services and Bell Mobility’s Solo line will surely undergo a price change.
