SLCD screens coming to HTC Desire and Nexus One

A shortage of AMOLED displays has HTC looking to Sony’s Super LCD to meet the demands for the Verizon Desire, and Google’s Nexus One. Samsung furnishes it’s AMOLED screens for High-end HTC Android based smartphones, but has largely been unable to accommodate the growing demand for such phones.

HTC’s Peter Chou cites an increasingly high demand for phones with a 3.7-inch display has pushed the decision for the switch, and adding the SLCD screens offer a chance to “ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high demand.”

HTC, in a statement concerning the new SLCD technology says it “offers an exceptional natural balanced color, clear contrast, broad viewing angles, and improved power efficiency” and also offers”a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7-inch displays”
