Now, how about that? Droid X and Droid 2 have just been launched and it seems like Verizon has already signed their death sentences for March 31st, 2011. That’s just 8 months from now, and well before your contract expires. So what i going on here?
The end of life they are mentioning is NOT end of support. What it means though, is that in 8 months from now, Motorola will launch their sequels Droid 3 and whatever comes next after Droid X. The smartphone market is moving so quick that they can bring in new generations of phones every 8 months now. This is not just slightly improved models were talking about here. We’re talking about true sequels with specs at least 40-50% better than the previous versions.
Because of this accelerated time-to-market we might soon see one year contracts from carriers, but this will mean 2 things: either the phones will be sold for more than $200, or they will get their money from expensive data plans. I’m going with the latter.
