What makes an Android phone great is the fact that Google Maps is integrated through the OS and is very helpful when lost and you don’t have your TomTom with you or charged up enough to power on. But the US Galaxy S phones (So far the Vibrant and Captivate) are having some GPS issues that either leave the phone with no signal at all or a very weak signal.
Samsung has said that they are aware of the issue and are looking into it and will send out a fix soon, but for those who are like me and don’t like to wait, especially since this shouldn’t be any issue with phone any more; the amazing people at XDA Forums have a fix for us.
First way to fix it is (tends to be most successful and quickest GPS lock):
-Disable “use wireless networks” under settings, location and security
-Got into LbsTestMode (*#*#1472365#*#*)
-Go to Application Settings
-Enable MS-Based Mode
-Increase Accuracy to 100
Leave everything else as it.
Return to the main LbsTestMode menu
-Go to SUPL/CP Settings
-Select the Serve FQDN Type drop down menu
-Tap auto config
-Exit dialer and reboot your Vibrant a couple of times to make sure the settings take
Second way (not as quick in locking in location as the first method):
-Disable “use wireless networks” under settings, location and security
-Dial *#*#1472365#*#*
-Under SUPL/CP Settings, change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 (make sure that you do not input the “www.” in front of the supl)
-Reboot
-Turn back on the “use wireless networks” option
The third way to try and fix the GPS issue:
-Dial *#*#1472365#*#*
-Go outside to get an unimpeded GPS fix
-Tap the “delete GPS data” button
-Tap the “get position test” button and let it run for about 3 minutes or until you have 10-12 satellites locked on your position and back out.
