The mystery HTC Merge mobile phone has cleared another hurdle, and is closer to being spotted, photographed, and spec’ed by the Android community. Originally nothing but a model number (ADR6325), the Merge name then appeared in Verizon’s inventory. Verizon has 12 devices slated for release over the next few months, and the Merge was rumored to appear in November.
The ADR6325 received approval from the Global Certification Forum (GCF) for some European and Asian single and quad bands of cellular service. So, global GSM and UMTS support for Europe and/or Asia.
The GCF certifies mobile and wireless devices using the 3GPP standard. Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is a 3G telecomm technology, with 4G being developed.
Since Verizon has the Merge in its inventory, there’s a possibility that this will be a world phone (CDMA and GSM compatible) and perhaps this image, of a world phone in development with a 2011 release date, is in fact the Merge all along.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that the AD6325 and the Merge may not be the same handset after all. We’ll be keeping our eye on this one, or ones.
