Sony is reported to be working on an Android device that will revolutionize the way we look at gaming on a smartphone. A slider phone running Android 3.0 will actually slide out a gaming pad instead of a QWERTY keyboard. As we know, Sony is heavily vested in gaming with it’s popular PS3 game console as well as with the PSP. As we see more and more games appear on the market place, we know that the demand is there but the hardware has been a bit of a limitation. Games are becoming more and more sophisticated as well. Brickbreaker, although a great time killer, is nothing compared to the street car racers and first person shooters now available on your smartphone. Giving users access to a proper game pad on your phone will open up a new era in smartphone gaming.
Specifications are sparse on this mystery device. Screen size will be between 3.7 and 4.1 inch, snapdragon 1Ghz processor , 5MP camera on the back, and graphic capabilities similar to those found on the PSP. Titles are said to include Modern Warfare, God of War and Little Big Planet. Sony Ericsson plan on building an entire gaming ecosystem around the Gingerbread 3.0 / Android platform complete with a gaming specific Market Place.
Release date is still to be announced but word around the Engadget water cool buzzed an October appearance. Given the hardware specs, it doesn’t seem to far off. Building enough content in the gaming Market Place may take a while longer.
