Avaya is releasing Android-Powered Device for Business

Avaya, the large business communications device and solution maker is stepping into the Android arena with a brand new ‘Desktop Video Device’ powered by their proprietary interface called ‘Avaya Flare’ (fact sheet PDF) this business communication and collaboration device is proving on paper to be quite an interesting device.

The ‘Desktop Video Device’ is cram packed with tech goodies including:

  • 11.6 inch HD multi touch display with a resolution of 1368×768
  • Ethernet jack (RJ-45)
  • WIFI b/g/n
  • dual microphones
  • stereo speakers
  • USB with support for Keyboard, mouse, external speakers, mobiles, storage and so on…
  • Bluetooth 2.0/2.1
  • Fold out stand
  • and much more…

This device is aiming to be the bees knees of business communication offering very easy organization with contextual calendaring, email and contacts, collaboration including real-time video conferencing, file sharing, social media integration, Instant Messaging and much more. This is truly a powerful device for use in the business world. There has been a lot of consideration on form factor and work flow allowing for portability (powered by a battery allowing for 3 hours of disconnected roaming usage) and compatibility with a great number of external devices. There has been no pricing released for this product yet.

It does my heart good to see people putting Android to such interesting uses in a context that includes telecommunications but is more tailored for the specifics of business use. The only thing in my opinion that would make this device even better would be if it made coffee but I didn’t see it in the fact sheet, maybe in version 2…
