Verizon Wireless is really going all out for the launch of their special edition R2-D2 Droid 2 phone. The official launch is September 30, beginning at 11 pm on the 29th until 1 am, the 30th. No doubt their will be Star Wars fanboys wanting to get their hands on this, and especially if they are Android fans, they would be ecstatic to buy.
Verizon is organizing a country-wide party for their R2-D2 edition of the Droid 2 with employees dressing up as Star War characters, such as, Stormtroopers. With your purchase of the Droid 2, you get an R2-D2 t-shirt and poster. Other details, reported by BGR, state that there will be a live DJ, video games and a chance to win 1 of 5 R2-D2 phones. Stores will only have 200 units on hand, and at this point it is not sure if they will be sold online as well or just at the store, but if you are really wanting this phone, I would make sure to be there at 11 PM on the 29th.
The most important detail to note is that BGR is reporting the special edition Droid 2’s will come clocked at 1.2 GHz, rather than the 1 GHz the original Verizon Droid 2 came out with. This is not a confirmed detail, but that would mean that the R2-D2 is simply the International Version with a special design on it. It sure would be exciting to hear that these folks would be getting a faster speed.
