T-Mobile G2 is out in the wild and Engadget got their hands on it while at Best Buy’s Holiday Event in NYC. One of the first things they noticed is that it is the U.S. version of the HTC Desire Z. This is our first hands-on look at the G2 and Engadget was able to take a look at the features and even make a short video. Here’s a short summery of what was seen.
The phone has a sturdy feel to it, heavier than the latest phones out there but still gives it that classy touch with a brushed metal back cover. The QWERTY keyboard slides right out and provides enough spacing in between the keys enough to type with comfort.
The G2 will be running a vanilla flavored Froyo build, making it an absolute dream for those that don’t like manufacturer’s UI on top of Android. A really interesting feature that was shown on the video is that when you long-click on the app drawer, a set of pages pops up so that you can select a screen without swyping over.
The G2 is packing an 800 MHz Snapdragon with 512 MB of Ram and 4 GB of internal memory. GPU Benchmark performance was leaked back a few weeks ago and it seemed up to par with other smart phones currently out. From the video, the phone is smooth with no noticeable hiccups.
