Well I can’t say I’m surprised that Google is going to put the Android OS on 3D TVs since they are releasing their Google TV devices. What is surprising is that the Android OS is aiming to be on all 3D TVs. Currently Samsung and Sony are going to be fully integrating the Android OS into their 3D TVs. This is a big deal because Samsung is currently holding an 80% market share in the 3D TV category.
How is this going to enhance the 3D TV world, in terms of the 3D technology, nothing. But when it comes to the overall viewing experience, Google’s Android OS will give customers access to Google TV without an extra add on device. By being able to use Google TV, customers will be able to enjoy the full range of TV shows, films, documentaries, and much more. So Google TV will allow not only allow TV viewing but also internet viewing, and in most cases, both at the same time. Google is hoping to support Android applications by the end of the year and also Google will be supporting Flash too. So I guess the only questions I have left are, when will they be available and how much money am I going to have to pony up for one of these Google TV enabled 3D TVs?
