There’s been some speculation that HTC may introduce the just announced Desire HD for the American market. Well, the FCC test results for the PD98100 have just been posted, and the label (above) looks quite like same as the Desire HD’s. The tested phone has passed. The real issue is what the tests show isn’t in this phone.
It seems the FCC gauntlet had to be run because the Desire HD can roam, using 2G (Quad band), on the GSM 850/1900 band. But the 3G bands used in the US are not there. The Desire HD uses GSM 900/2100 for 3G (well, HSPA) communication, which is the Europe and Asia standard. The US uses GSM 850/1900 or 1700/2100 for 3G. And there’s not much point in selling a 3G-capable phone in the US that doesn’t broadcast on their 3G bands for GSM.
While HTC very well may come out with a variant for use stateside, the European/Asian Desire HD is not the one for US customers or carriers.
