According to Wall Street Journal, via TmoNews, the new Huawei IDEOS U8150 could be coming to T-mobile. The IDEOS has a 2.8 inch screen, capacitive touchscreen, 3G, Wifi, bluetooth, and is running Android 2.2 (Froyo). William Stofega, IDC analyst thinks it will be a low budget phone, to be available for as low as $50 on a contract. The source claims that T-mobile and Huawei are within a month’s time to sign a deal and be available just in time for the holidays .
If this deal goes through, it will be Huawei’s first phone for U.S. consumers and could be the entry into the smart-phone industry here in the states. Huawei has been criticized for its business dealings and seen as a security conern by the federal government. This deal could be the leverage they need to be seen as less of a security issue.
