Planning on one of those hot new HTC Desire HD smartphones? Balking at the unlocked price and hoping the carrier will help subsidize it? Android Central has a leaked price from a contact at Vodafone, and getting one under contract isn’t going to be cheap.
Yes, that’s going to run you €359 on a Vodafone contract for this 1 GHz beauty. Don’t want to commit to Vodafone? You can pick it up unlocked for €519.
We’ll let you know as soon as we have a launch date or pre-order information for this one.
Also, one of the commenters on Android Central pointed out an interesting article I thought I’d share since we’re talking Desire HD. Many people have called the Desire HD the “Euro Evo.” According to this piece on Android Evolutions, the two phones are not the same, because the Desire HD has a much better processor, among other things.
Their table says most of it:
The Evo has a longer-lasting battery. Otherwise, the Desire HD rules. The just-announced handset has a second-generation Snapdragon processor with a faster graphics processor onboard, compared to its American cousin’s first-gen chipset. And second-generation means better technology, as in 45 vs 65 nm manufacturing technology. In practical terms, that means the newer CPU will use less power and produce less heat.
As to the GPU, the Adreno 205 on the Desire HD has been benchmarked 3 to 4 times faster than the Evo 4G’s Adreno 200. The Desire HD has 50% more ROM and RAM as well.
Europe is definitely getting the better smartphone. Maybe that Vodafone contract price isn’t too high after all.
