Since the Motorola DROID 2 Global has been clocked at 1.2 GHz, does that mean the R2-D2 is as well? I’m afraid not. Despite having the same processor, the R2-D2 is checking in at the same speed as the original DROID 2: 1.0 GHz. Let’s hope that gets fixed in an update real soon. And if not, perhaps our friends at XDA Developers will make some modifications.
But there’s plenty more news about the R2 unit, launching today, and it’s all good. You can order the phone now at the Verizon Wireless website, or stop into one of their stores and take one home. It’s $249 on a two-year contract, after rebate.
The phone itself has plenty of Star Wars content. There’s wallpapers (including six live ones). Want to see the Millenium Falcon zoom across your screen while avoiding the asteroids? There are movie clips, an R2-D2 clock widget, and an app where you scan for Imperial walkers.
There’s a Star Wars-themed app coming to the Android Market, called The Empire Strikes Back. This $2.99 app will include widgets, live wallpapers, a trivia game, more sounds and photos, and a something called Bounty Hunt Visual ID. Sounds like a game, so let the Wookie win.
Okay, not one, not two, but three R2-D2 videos for you!
It’s coming out the box here, courtesy of DroidDog. And there’s a lot in the box.
Want to see it get unboxed again? MobileBurn has a ten minute plus video:
Enjoy this video from DROIDLife, where they go hands-on with the R2-D2, right in the Verizon Wireless store.
