The Tegra 2 chipset hasn’t even made its presence known yet but its name and capabilities are certainly gaining popularity. According to sources from DigiTimes, Motorola, HTC and ASUS are some of the major manufacturers that have placed orders for the Tegra 2. Motorola Plans to use the CPU in an upcoming smartphone capable of 1080p while HTC and ASUS will be powering tablets with this second-gen processor.
MSI and Toshiba have already publicly shown off their tablets sporting the Tegra 2; they are the MSI WindPad and the Toshiba Folio 100. HTC’s tablet is hasn’t yet left the rumor mill. Despite public statements from the company denying they are designing a large touchscreen device, the rumor has been building momentum. Some claims state this fabled HTC device could appear as early as Q1 2011.
In the meantime, Motorola is aiming to set the bar stating that they plan to produce a 2GHz device by the end of THIS YEAR. Naturally, there was no “official” statement as to which CPU the electronic giant will be utilizing. According to the CEO of NVIDIA, Jen-Hsun Huang, Motorola “is one of the major clients that NVIDIA is cooperating with for the long term.” Based on his statement among other things, it’s likely we will here from Motorola officially in coming weeks about its direction and what part NVIDIA plays.
