Motorola Tablet Coming by End of the Year? Nope

Yesterday, Sanjay Jha, Motorola’s CEO, said that he’s hoping they can develop a tablet by the end of the year. This would be a great opportunity for them because tablets are an extension of smartphones, as he put it, and they would not cannibalize their smartphone market.

He’s said before that they would only do a tablet if it was compelling enough. He clearly didn’t think Android 2.1 was good enough for a tablet, and neither is Android 2.2 as Google has stated themselves. There has been a rumor that Motorola is working on a tablet with Google and they are going to use Android 3.0 Gingerbread for it. Since Gingerbread is going to have an overhauled UI, this gives me hope that Gingerbread is not only overhauled and more intuitive for smartphones, but they also made it to work very well on tablets.

If Motorola is going to launch a Gingerbread tablet, it will indeed be the best Android tablet that will be launched this year, and the most talked about, too. It would surpass Galaxy Tab and even Notion Ink Adam in popularity and sales, granted it launches early enough before the year is over.

I have a feeling Google might even hand over Motorola tablets with Gingerbread at the Android event next month, to developers – just like they’ve done at I/O this year.
