Not sure whether to call this one a leak or a rumor. Internal RadioShack documents hit the blogosphere, and it looks like the hobbyist electronics stores are planning to sell the T-mobile G2 three days ahead of T-Mobile’s planned launch date. The above from TmoNews clearly states “T-Mobile HTC G2 Launches Sunday, October 3” and “Starting Sunday, October 3, you will be able to offer the G2 to your customers!” What’s more, they’ll be offering it for $149.99 on new two-year contracts.
It’s interesting that existing T-Mobile customers would pay $199.99 on a two-year upgrade or add-a-line activation. That would discourage current customers, although T-Mobile contract holders could have pre-ordered their G2 already. The phones are already being shipped.
Here’s a Radio Shack internal screenshot that Phandroid got ahold of, concurring with that October 3rd launch date. So much for my theory that someone hit the wrong number key when passing the launch date along to the marketing department.
Phandroid was kind enough to transcribe most of the above text, as it is difficult to make out.
The new T-Mobile G2 is almost here!! The G2 (1701089) is T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ smartphone, leveraging the new HSPA+ network (available in select markets) that connects you at 4G speeds. Starting Sunday, October 3, you will be able to offer the G2 to your customers!
Overview: The G2 includes an 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor, and it comes with a 3.7″ WVGA touch-panel screen, 4GB of internal memory, and an external microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB cards (an 8GB card is included). Other features include integrated voice action, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus, and a 720p HD video recorder.
Price: At launch, the G2 will be available for $149.99 on new two-year activations and $199.99 on two-year upgrades, FlexPay, and add-a-line activations. Android data plan activation is required.
Anyone want this phone enough to check out RadioShack this Sunday?
