As I stated with the FCC sightings of the FOLIO 100, the Android tablet scene is getting quite the attention lately but did you really expect HTC to sit quietly on this? Rumors have surfaced that HTC placed build orders through Pegatron with specs that would drive even the most hardcore Android enthusiasts out of their chair. It is said that this HTC tablet will come off the line sporting the Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, multi-touch capacitive screen capable of 720p resolutions at around 1280×720. Of course, it will pack all of the features we have come to know and love such as WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, Android Market.
If we had to speculate, here are the specs laid out:
- 1Ghz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor
- POWERFUL GPU
- 2GB of RAM
- 32GB SSD drive
- 1280×720 HD 720p display
- Multi-touch
- WiFi
- GPS
- Bluetooth
- Android Market
It sure sounds great but who knows if your wallet would agree. If these specs hold true, expect to see the HTC Tablet to land in your hands for nearly $800. That is quite a hike from the base price of the iPad (base model, WiFi only). Naturally, sporting the Tegra 2 will turn this device into a multimedia spectacle that iPad wishes it could be. Also, on the heels of the launch of HTCSense.com, this tablet could bring with it a much more rich experience with cloud-based features.
Who wouldn’t mind getting their hands on a fine piece of equipment like this? Unfortunately for HTC, they may be late to the game. The Samsung Galaxy S Tab is flying high at the top of the Android tablet world right now. Benchmark, price point, features, you name it – the Galaxy S Tab is the device to beat and easily the toughest competitor that HTC will need to take on and you can bet Samsung won’t go down without a fight.
Again, if the rumors become reality, I can’t wait for the first video putting these two awesome devices next to each other.
