Toshiba's FOLIO 100 Tablet spotted at FCC, could land in US afterall

At the beginning of the month it was all eyes on Toshiba as they launched their new FOLIO 100 10.1″ tablet sporting Android 2.2. It was boasted to have an Nvidia Tegra 2 (dual-core) processor, 1.3MP front facing camera, wifi support for 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, availability of up to 16GB of internal storage with SD expansion and HDMI out.

When first reported, it was said that the FOLIO 100 would not be available in the United States but that all could be changing (perhaps partially because of the imminent launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab), Atheros has submitted a filing earlier today with the FCC for the device. It is certainly not a guarantee that we will see this tablet here in the United States but it usually serves as a good indication that a device/product could appear on shelves in the US. Interestingly, in this filing, the label for the device has the name Toshiba Europe GMBH (Toshiba’s European subsidiary).

The US tablet market is, for lack of a better term, limited. The launch of a device such as the FOLIO 100 standing next to Samsung’s acclaimed Galaxy Tab could turn up the heat. Be on the lookout for more details soon. I think we will be hearing lots more about this device in coming weeks.
