Should Galaxy Tab Get an AMOLED Display?

The AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays have taken the display world by storm. There is a huge demand for them right now in smartphones and even tablets, because of the color richness they give, making them the ultimate display technologies at the moment.

The problem with this huge demand is that Samsung is pretty much the only manufacturer for them, and even they were taken by surprise by the demand, and now they can barely meet it. Samsung has promised that next year they will ramp up their display production by 10x, so there shouldn’t be a shortage anymore of AMOLED or Super AMOLED displays because they will make up to 30 million displays a month.

The shortage of these displays must’ve been the main reason why Galaxy TAB didn’t get an AMOLED or Super AMOLED display. Obviously, for a media oriented tablet, a rich display like that would be amazing, but I think they would also bring down Galaxy TAB’s battery life.

A tablet should be mostly used for browsing and when you browse you mainly see a white background. Well, white backgrouds draw as much as 3x the power of an LCD on same white background. This could be a serious concern, unless Samsung improves their AMOLED displays to use as much or not much more energy than an LCD when they are on white backgrouds.

What do you think? Would you still prefer an AMOLED/Super AMOLED display or an LCD one?
