ith the G2 on its way to T-Mobile soon, people are still questioning why it is running the CPU at 800 MHZ when a new generation of phones with 1GHz are coming out. However, after a leak of the GLBenchmark for the graphics test came out, it is up to par with the Samsung Galaxy Captivate and the Motorola Droid X/2.
The reason for this is because the G2 will be the first phone with the new 45nm 800 MHz MSM7230 processor from Qualcomm. Included with this is a graphics processor, Adreno 205, which is similar to performance with the GPUs in Samsung and TI’s SOC’s. Qualcomm claims that the Adreno 205 is 4x faster than its predecessor, the Adreno 200, numbers that have now been verified with an upload to GLBenchmark. Even though only one datapoint was compared, I am sure it might be that push for those who were uncertain about performance. The benchmark shows the G2 with similar results as the Samsung Captivate, Motorola Droid X/2, and the MyTouch Slider.
I am glad the G2 performs at the same level as the new high-end phones, but what about when the new dual-core processor phones come out? Will the G2 be able to hold its own?
